SHAREit is similar to Apple’s AirDrop, and uses Wi-Fi to exchange files among Windows PCs and iOS, Android and Windows Phone smartphones. Some of these devices can be temporarily transformed into stand-alone Wi-Fi hotspots to share files if wireless networks are not available. But SHAREit comes with several major flaws, perhaps the worst of which is that temporary networks hosted on a PC have a hardcoded access password of “12345678” – the “third-worst” password of 2015....

The Yoga 7i offers stellar performance, a long battery life, solid speakers and a colorful 14-inch display packed into a premium chassis, all for just $649 (originally $899). It doesn’t get lighter than this. LG unveiled two new laptops in its Gram lineup in advance of CES in Las Vegas, and we got to spend some hands-on time with the laptops at the event. The Gram 17 has a large footprint but rather incredibly weighs just 3 pounds, which is crazy light for a notebook with a 17-inch display. The MX Master 2 is nearly identical to the original model, but with more colors, better battery life and support for Logitech’s clever “Flow” functionality. OSX/Dok’s distributors used the age-old tactic of targeting victims with a email attachment, which in this case contained malware that was signed with a legitimate Apple Developer Certificate. With that certificate, OSX/Dok could casually walk past macOS’s Gatekeeper security like it owned the place, trick the user into giving it admin rights, then proceed to spy on the user’s encrypted communications, including Gmail and online financial transactions. Security researchers working with Comparitech (opens in new tab) discovered the unprotected data, which consisted of five identical databases containing conversation logs between Microsoft support agents and customers. Spanning 14 years (from 2005 to December 2019), the exposed conversations included some customer email addresses, IP addresses, locations, descriptions of claims, case numbers and support agent’s emails. Microsoft said it concluded an investigation into a “misconfiguration of an internal customer support database” in a notice posted on the Microsoft website (opens in new tab)....
